How to register as an individual entrepreneur in Hungary


If you want to launch a small business, or you’d like to invoiceyour side hustle, you may be considering to register an an individual entrepreneur or egyéni vállalkozó in Hungary, or EV for short.

But what is an „egyéni vállalkozó” actually?
Individual entrepreneurship is a form of business, whereby anatural person pursue business activities, invoices, pays business taxes without having to incorporate a company (a separate legal entity).

So how can you register?
Individual entrepreneurs are registered by the Hungarian taxoffice (NAV – Nemzeti Adó- és Vámhivatal). The registration process can be done online via your ClientGate and in person in your local tax office. Registration is free of charge.

If you don’t speak Hungarian, you can ask your lawyer or accountant to register you, as online registration is only available in Hungarian!

What will you need to register?
To register as an individual entrepreneur, you will need:
- a personal tax identification number (adóazonosítójel),
- a ClienGate access (Ügyfélkapu),
- an official address for the registered seat,
- the statistical designations (TEÁOR szám) forthe business activities you wish to pursue,
- your chosen tax scheme ie.átalányadózás/flat-rate tax, KATA, etc.

Registration steps:
1. Go to www.magyarorszag.hu and sign in.

. Change the language from English to Hungarian.
3. On the left menu bar, click on „VÁLLALKOZÁS”,and then „EGYÉNI VÁLLALKOZÁS”.
4. From the pop-up list, choose „EGYÉNI VÁLLALKOZÓITEVÉKENYSÉG MEGKEZDÉSÉNEK BEJELENTÉSE”
5. On the next page, click on „ÜGYINTÉZÉS INDÍTÁSA”.
6. Then the registration form form appears, whichyou can then complete with the required information.
7. Finally, press on „BEKÜLDÉS” to submit thecompleted form.

Once you submitted the registration form, you should receive a certificate of registration in your ClientGate inbox (Ügyfélkapu tárhely) within a day or two – if all of the information you provided are correct. If not, the tax office will send you a letter to inform you of what you need to change.
