Obtaining a Registration Certificate in Hungary for EEA-citizens

Registering as an EEA-citizen in Hungary

As an EEA citizen staying over 90 days in Hungary, you mustregister for an EEA Registration Certificate and Address Card within 93 days of arrival via the online Enter Hungary platform (https://enterhungary.gov.hu) or in person at immigrationauthority, called the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (NDGAP).

Timing: Apply within 93 days of entering Hungaryif your stay exceeds 90 days. The registration process should take no longer than 30 days.


Purpose: Define your reason for staying(employment in Hungary, remote work, study, family, self-employment).

Required Documents:

Valid ID (Passport/ID card).
- Proof of address (rental contract, title deed).
- Proof of purpose (work contract, studentenrollment certificate, etc.).
- Proof of sufficient funds/health insurance.

Fees: Pay a fee of HUF 1,000 forthe registration certificate and HUF 5,700 for the address card.

Delivery: The Registration Certificate is issued atthe time if in-person, or mailed later if online; the Address Card is mailed separately.

Validity: The Registration Certificate and AddressCard are valid indefinitely.
Please note that registering in Hungary permits you to stayin Hungary indefinitely but it does not qualify as permanent residence.

Family reunification: If your family member is alsoEEA-nationals, you can all follow the same procedure. If your family member is a third country national, they may apply for a Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA-citizen.

Once you registered in Hungary and you received your addresscard - What next?

Personal tax number: register with the Hungarian tax authority (NAV) to receive a local personal tax number.

TAJ-card: To obtain publichealth Insurance coverage in Hungary, visit the local goverment office
(kormányhivatal/kormányablak) to obtain a public security card (TAJ-card).

Ügyfélkapu: Many publicad ministration services are available online on www.magyarorszag.hu. To access these online services you will need an e-government client gate (Ügyfélkapu). You can visit the local government office (kormányhivatal/kormányablak) to register a client gate.
