Living & Working in Hungary
If you are a third country national, you are required to hold a residence permit issued by the Immigration Office to legally reside (live) in Hungary, and if you want to work in Hungary, you also have to obtain a work permit from the Labour Office.
To facilitate this, the Hungarian Immigration Law introduced the so-called Singe Application Process, whereby you can apply for a residence permit AND a work permit in the same procedure. Your application is submitted to the Immigration Office, who then forwards your application to the Labour Office to seek their approval.
In the table below, I collected the 4 main types of work residence permits, and compared them based on the assumed rights and obligations.
Please note that if you are self-employed (egyéni vállalkozó) or you own a company or you work remotely, the table doesn't apply to you.
