OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE OF GOOD CONDUCT / EXCERPT OF CLEAN CRIMINAL RECORD FROM HUNGARY
ONLINE APPLICATION
If you have Ügyfélkapu+ , you may apply for a certificate of clean criminal record online through

If you have the DÁP, you can file your application through the app.
If you don’t have either of these e-government access tools, you will have to file your application
in the following ways.
APPLICATION IN PERSON
The application for the certificate of clean criminal record can be submitted in person at the
Customer Service Center of the Criminal Records Authority (Ministry of Interior): H-1097
Budapest, Vaskapu utca 30/A. If you wish to apply in person, you must book an appointment
beforehand by calling 1818, the free Government Customer Line, available 24 hours a day.
(Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:00, Friday 08:00 to 13:30.)
NO POWER OF ATTORNEY: If you wish to apply at the Customer Service Center, you must do it
in person. No authorisation or power of attorney is accepted on behalf of the applicant.
The certificate is produced within 5 days, which you can pick up in person or may be delivered
by post.
APPLICATION BY POST
An application form (in Hungarian) for a certificate of clean criminal record can be purchased
at any post office in Hungary. The completed application form must be signed by the appicant
and must be sent by registered post to the Ministry of Interior, Criminal Records Authority, H
1475 Budapest, Pf. 172.
The certificate will be delivered by post, and can exclusively be received by the addressee. The
addressee may be the applicant themselves or any other authorised person in Hungary (as
previously indicated on the application form).
APPLICATION FROM ABROAD
From abroad, you can apply for a certificate of clean criminal record through a diplomatic or
consular mission of Hungary by appearing in person. If you apply in person at a diplomatic or
consular mission, the certificate will be issued as an electronic public document, and
delivered through the mission.
You may also apply online (with Ügyfélkapu+ or in DÁP), in which case your certificate will be
produced in paper form and delivered by post.
TYPES OF CERTIFICATE AND WHAT THEY CERTIFY
THIS IS THE ONE THAT IS REQUIRED FOR IMMIGRATION AND CITIZENSHIP PROCEEDINGS.
There are 2 types of certificates you can choose from, and your choice must be indicated on the
application form:
1. Certificate with general content which may prove the followings:
a. you have a clean criminal record,
b. you are not under the effect of being banned from exercising your civil rights,
c. you are not banned from practicing any profession or occupation;
d. or on the contrary, the certificate may indicate the occupation or activity the practicing
of which you are banned from.
2. Certificate with special content,
i.e. to prove compliance with a specific provision of the law (typically, if you wish to work
in a profession that is regulated by a specific law).
Good to know!
- Obtaining the certificate of clean criminal record may take up to 8 days.
- The certificate is valid for 90 days as of the date of issue.
- Application is free of charge.
- The certificate can only be obtained in Hungarian, therefore clients must arrange their own
translation if they require the certificate in a language other than Hungarian. - On 1 application form, you can apply for only 1 certificate. The criminal records authority will
not make any copies or extracts of the certificate. - The certificate includes the following information: the applicant's first and last name; first
and last name at birth; place and date of birth; address as recorded in the Personal Data and
Home Address Register; mother's maiden name (first and last name); nationality; indication
of the fact the attestation of which was requested; identification number of the Certificate of
Good Conduct, and the place and date of issue; name of the issuing authority; signature and
stamp of the person authorised to issue the certificate.
